Unique Feature

Incorporated as Sundaram Newton Asset Management Company under the Companies Act of 1956 on February 26, 1996, SAMC is a public limited company that has received SEBI approval to serve as the investment manager for the plans of Sundaram Mutual Fund. One of the first private asset managers in India, SAMC has been a pioneer in the field of investment management. In SAMC, Sundaram Finance held 61% of the shares, while Newton Investment Management, U.K., held 39%.

In 2001, Mellon Financial Corporation bought Newton Investment Management on a worldwide scale. Following this development, SAMC became a fully owned subsidiary of Sundaram Finance in 2002 after Sundaram Finance purchased the 39% part of the Newton group. BNP Paribas Asset Management, located in France, purchased a 49.9% share in SAMC in March 2006 and established a joint venture. Sundaram BNP Paribas Asset Management Limited is the new name for SAMC. In July 2010, BNP Paribas Asset Management was forced to dissolve the joint venture by selling its share to Sundaram Finance. Since that time, Sundaram Finance has owned 100% of SAMC.
