What Raamdeo Agrawal’s Disclosed Portfolio Actually Shows
Raamdeo Agrawal’s disclosed portfolio is dominated by his promoter-group holding in Motilal Oswal Financial Services, not by a list of stock picks. Portfolio trackers build their lists from quarterly shareholding filings, which name an individual only when the holding is 1% or more of a listed company.
That creates two blind spots. A promoter stake shows up as a very large value, while personal investments below the 1% line do not show up at all. Copying a tracker’s list therefore does not replicate how he invests.
The investable expression of his thinking is the QGLP process used across Motilal Oswal Asset Management’s equity strategies. That is where an HNI investor should look when evaluating “his portfolio”.
The QGLP Framework: Quality, Growth, Longevity, Price
QGLP is a four-filter stock selection process that Raamdeo Agrawal created at Motilal Oswal Asset Management. A company must pass all four filters to qualify.
- Quality: the quality of the business and of the management running it.
- Growth: growth in earnings, backed by sustained return on equity.
- Longevity: how long the company can keep its competitive advantage, or economic moat.
- Price: buying a good business at a fair price, rather than a fair business at a good price.
Growth and Price work as a pair. Growth covers earnings growth, while Price guards against overpaying for that growth through valuation.
“Buy Right, Sit Tight”: How Long QGLP Investors Hold
“Buy Right, Sit Tight” means buying quality companies at a reasonable price and staying invested long enough to capture their full growth cycle. Buying right is the QGLP process; sitting tight is the discipline of not selling early.
In practice, Motilal Oswal’s QGLP strategies run focused portfolios, typically 20 to 25 stocks, with low turnover. Investors should expect a holding horizon of three years or more and periods when the portfolio lags its benchmark.
The Wealth Creation Study and What It Tells Investors
The Motilal Oswal Wealth Creation Study is an annual research report that Raamdeo Agrawal has authored since its first edition in 1996. Each edition analyses the 100 Indian listed companies that created the most shareholder wealth over the previous five years.
The 30th edition, covering 2020 to 2025, was released on 11 December 2025. The study ranks the biggest, fastest and most consistent wealth creators and draws lessons from them. Those lessons feed directly into the QGLP filters. All editions are free to read on Motilal Oswal’s Wealth Creation Study page.
